Andalusian Arabic Dancers

ANDALUSIAN ARABIC DANCERS

The Andalusian Dancers is a standalone performance dance group, led by choreographer, Yogo. Sometimes accompanying the Andalusian Arabic Choir, the group’s aim is to revive interest in medieval Andalusian art, music and dance between the 8th and 15th centuries up to the fall of Granada. This period includes elaborate dance costumes with sensational Andalusian colours.

The choreography also reflects the happy, free and advanced society of the time which differed from other Arabic and European communities which lagged behind on many fronts including science, music and astronomy.

Andalusian dance

The Andalusian dance style is full of emotion, expression and rhythm. The costumes are an important part of the intricate movements of the dancers and the performance. The history and style of Andalusian dance have been as colourful as the costumes themselves.
